Dear Members of HKUST Community,
The recent fire incident at Tai Po Wang Fuk Court has deeply saddened the entire Hong Kong community. On behalf of the University, I extend our heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies to the families who lost loved ones, the affected residents, the frontline firefighters, and all those impacted by this tragedy.
In times of adversity, it is heartening to witness the spirit of solidarity and compassion that defines our community. I was particularly moved to learn that HKUST students took the initiative to gather and distribute essential supplies to support affected residents during this difficult time. Their selfless actions embody the values of caring for society and standing together in times of need, and they deserve our utmost praise and gratitude.
The road to recovery for the affected residents will be long and challenging. To further support the recovery efforts, HKUST has established a dedicated university account to collect contributions from our community.
Funds raised will be directed toward relief initiatives led by the University to assist those impacted by the Wang Fuk Court fire. Any remaining balance will be channeled to the "Support Fund for Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po," established by the HKSAR Government, to contribute to broader community recovery efforts.
We warmly encourage all faculty, staff, students, and alumni to join this meaningful endeavour. Through our united efforts, we can help the affected residents rebuild their lives. Your contributions can be made via this Link.
Let us come together once again to demonstrate the spirit of caring for society and supporting one another. Every contribution, regardless of the amount, will make a meaningful difference in demonstrating our collective compassion and support.
Thank you for your generosity and kindness.
Warm regards,
Nancy Ip
